We decided to celebrate our anniversary with a night in the city and a special dinner. The Viceroy hotel was exactly what we needed. From the moment we arrived, everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful, starting with the valet. I appreciated him confirming the daily rate with me and not assuming I knew. I booked a nice package that included parking and breakfast. It was perfect. During check-in I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary. They surprised us with a bottle of champagne sent to the room. The bathroom in our room was amazing. Rain shower and very good towels. Amazingly stocked mini bar. My favorite thing was this little moon -like nightlight on the nightstand. So nice for the evening. Breakfast at Somerset was a perfect ending to our stay.

A wonderful stay in a truly lovely hotel

This was a truly stellar hotel experience for my husband and I. Gabe is a treasure there at Viceroy and his graciousness and ever-kind demeanor are such a winning combination. David (no surprise he won in the category for Viceroy Chicago’s “Icon of the Year” ) proves a most welcome delight. The entire crew there at Viceroy Chicago are simply … The Best. One of the housekeeping crew (Dominique) left us an enchantingly sweet thank you note (that was a first for us!). We met Jose - the in-house pastry chef extraordinaire there at Somerset Restaurant at Viceroy Chicago and we thanked him profusely for his exceedingly huge talent as a pastry chef-baker. The homemade rhubarb-strawberry cruffins constitute the very best pastry my husband and I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The crew at Somerset is as terrific as they come. If memory serves me here we’d initially booked a Delixe King w/ Lake View Room. I arrived a couple of days prior to my husband’s arrival. I had a rather large suitcase and a carry-on bag and was helped up to the room by David (David with his ebullient and ever-sunny disposition). After entering the room (such a visual treat - this room - and any of the rooms at Zvicetoy Chicago) and surveying the available furnishings with which to store foldable/non-hanging clothes I was surprised to find there were simply no bedside chests of drawers or any such like articles of furniture in the room. Nor would there be any viable drawers within the bathroom to store/stash all toiletries. Although I wrote I was “surprised” in actuality it should not surprise me. This appears to be the case in so many instances - no matter that the grade of hotel is A+ — hotel designers across the board do not appear to understand that those staying in a hotel must have adequate places to put not just hangables but foldable clothes as well. And we have to be able to have room enough in the restroom to place and plug in electric toothbrushes. And so importantly - adequate drawers with which to place toiletries and toothbrushes out of the way. Relying solely on a sink vanity top counter to accommodate f all of these purposes is nonsensical, wholly illogical and equates to (put simply) very lax judgement whereas hotel room design is concerned. Suffice to say I asked David if ALL the rooms were similar to this in not having any place to actually put belongings in (save for a clothes hanging closet) - he responded he would check with Gabe (who’d greeted me upon my arrival). Gabe indicated that all of the king rooms were going to be similar or identical to the room I’d booked in terms of basically no appreciable drawers anywhere to store clothes and toiletries. I explained this was really inexplicable (people have clothes, sleep water, shoes, toiletries — they have to find a place to land so to speak!) and that I really was going to have to be relocated to ANY room which would have chests of drawers in it and some drawers in the restroom in order to properly put my (and my husband’s) things away. Gabe said the only rooms which presented in this way were the PH rooms and the 1 bdrm suites. Due to the situation Gabe moved me to a 1-bdrm suite and kindly extended a discounted rate for this room (a room in the form of a suite which actually had not only the direly needed multiple drawers at bedside but under the tv and within the restroom as well — what a relief - and within a truly gorgeous well-designed — THOUGHTFULLY designed! — hotel room.) which he just tacked on to the rate assigned to the original room I’d booked. Thankful for the needed drawers and for the well-designed hotel room. Grateful to Gsbe who understood straightaway the predicament and set about finding proper solution — and delivered quickly and beautifully! Kudos all the way around! My husband and I are moving to Chicago and this trip was for meeting up with our realtor and viewing residences. We will not hesitate to stay at The Viceroy again nor would we hesitate to recommend Viceroy Chicago to friends and acquaintances. But boy-o- boy do I strongly recommend that the hotel rooms there which are not classified as one bdrm suites or ghe PH rooms be given a makeover involving the introduction of usable drawers in both the bedroom section as well the bathrooms? Answer? A resounding YES! and PLEASE! Thanks for the wonderfulness and for asking for my opinions about my stay at Viceroy Chicago. You’ve a truly extraordinary and extraordinarily well- kept/well-tended to property therein. She’s a beauty.

Great hotel with exceptionally friendly staff

It's a very nice hotel in a great location. However, what really stands out to me is the staff. I stayed there with my wife and son for 6 nights. We probably met 20 people that work there. Every single one of them could not have been more friendly, helpful and genuine. Special shout out to Dave (David?) out front. We're really looking forward to staying there again. I've also told my friends where to stay when they're in Chicago.

My stay at the Viceroy was pleasant. The hotel's central location in the Gold Coast area of Chicago made it convenient for exploring the city. The restaurant offered decent dining options. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience, and I would consider staying here again during future visits to Chicago.

Excellent hotel but “amenities fee” is a rip off. This must stop throughout the hotel industry. Hotel service is first rate. Associated Somerset restaurant is very good and applied discount a nice addition. Overall, still recommend as a very good place to stay; excellent location.
